Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need a physical office?

A. We do require physical office space. To help ease into the launch of your business, your first office can be a co-working or office suite space, although, we ideally recommend somewhere around 200 square feet. The office location must allow for and be conducive to client visits.  The location can be a shared services office facility.  Operation of the franchise from a home office is not permitted. We will guide you on-site criteria to help you evaluate space for your Advantage College Planning center.

Q: How long does it take to open?

A. If you are not opening a physical office space, you’ll be ready to launch within two months. If you opt to secure office space, your opening will depend on how quickly you find a lease location for your office. You do not need to build a ground-up office and we help owners evaluate real estate, with guidance to find your Advantage College Planning center. Once a lease is signed, you could be open in 2 to 4 months.

Q: What are the startup costs and what do they include?

A. Currently ranges from $72,000 to $102,000 which includes the $40,000-$50,000 initial franchise fee. The rest of the estimated costs include expenses to launch your Advantage College Planning office, 3rd party professional advisory fees, insurance and 3-months of working capital.

Q: How much will the business make in a year?

A. We will be able to share with you our Financial Performance Representation, called an Item 19 in our Franchise Disclosure Document which highlights affiliate performance and history. This can be a useful tool to help you evaluate the revenue potential for your Advantage College Planning center.

Q: Do I have to be an owner-operator?

A. Our owners must be active and involved; overseeing a team of consultants who have college admissions or high school guidance counselor experience and managing the marketing and client on-boarding process.

Q: Can I work with clients virtually?

A. Yes! Consultants can take on new clients and support existing clients virtually.

Q: How many people should be on the team in the office to start?

A. Typically between 1 and 3 employees depending on your development and growth. You can start as a placement counselor, and add staff as needed.
